>>Nice series of posts. But, for sure, made for those with a strong or at least decent command of compilers (à la C/C++) or at least Pascal or Delphi. Not my case anymore.
You can use VFP Compiler with zero knowledge of C++ compilation: but you *must* have the C++ dependencies for your desired VC++ version. This used to be a big issue if people didn't install the C++ runtimes and gave up when VFP Compiler threw the errors described in his help documentation. I made that mistake myself once upon a time (blush.) Chen's latest version won't install at all unless it can find installed VC++ files and VFP files, which prevents a lot of the old problems trying to install or use the product without the dependencies.
For experimentation, I'd recommend installing just MS's VC7 runtimes (not a whole IDE) that work very well IME and don't bring a full NET install or VC++ development environment like some of the newer VC. If you prefer a more recent version of C++, you can install it later and select it at compilation time.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
