I know that many people have talked about bad experienced with HP.
Obviously, I can only speak from my own experiences. I've owned 3 HP laptops (including the HP Spectre), 2 HP desktops, and a few printers. I've never had an issue, and I think the Spectre is an outstanding laptop.
Most people know Rod Paddock - he and I talked about the HP years ago. I forget the exact words he used - but if I recall, he had some bad experiences with HP and had some harsh (though jokingly harsh) words for me for even considering buying HP :)
On the other hand, people for years raved about Asus. In 2010 I bought what was viewed as a good Asus laptop - and had a number of display problems. I later learned it wasn't a fluke - that the model was known for having major display/flickering issues after a few months. So - YMMV.
Bottom line - every consumer purchase carries some risk.
