>>The cost to the family survivors of sudden death decreases with age, since the present value of the future earning stream lessens with age.
>>Smart insureds reduce their death benefits as they age.
>>Some insurers offer decreasing term policies, where premiums remain level but death benefits decrease.

In 2017, a lot of people are heavily mortgaged with lenders requiring life insurance to at least cover the mortgage. Smart insureds may have no means of reducing their benefits. But the premiums rise every year.

>>In that case, Merrill was putting up its own money, not someone else's, and that was one of the classiest things I came across during my corporate years.

My grandpa always said that the mark of a quality organization is how it treats its own. That's forgotten by many modern 1%ers who think their role primarily is to squeeze more margin and to heck with workers who are just an outsourceable commodity (and let them eat cake.)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
