You don't "insure" against things that you know will occur.
When you "insure" against an annual checkup, for example, you're simply pre-funding it and you're probably better off doing that yourself.

Medical insurance was originally intended to cover the cost of unexpected catastrophic illness that could wipe out a family.
Somewhere along the line it morphed into a funding system that covers visits to MD's for people with sniffles.
That's whacky.

We also confuse taking care of the medical needs of people who can't afford it, with insurance.
I'm all for taking care of those people. I'm an example of someone who benefited from free clinics for people with no money for health care. That's not insurance. It's taking care of needy people.

The notion that taking away insurance from 25 million people is taking away their health care assumes that those people couldn't pay for their own health care.
If that's true, we have a lot more problems than we think.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
