Why absurd? An opinion maybe, and not unreasonable.

Actually, a quote from Lincoln having said about Gen. US Grant "for if it (the whiskey) made fighting generals like Grant, I should like to get some of it for distribution.”
Do you think that Trump's incessant baseless claims show appreciation for the dignity of the office? Shouldn't he join those you listed above?
