But yes all of these things are bad, strip mining, takers burning, refineries, etc. Of course the direction to go is towards renewable energy but sadly we have the elected the wrong people in the USA at the moment and they refuse to accept this.

I think the solar "farms" are just as bad. I own a couple of farms in central Georgia. The solar bug hit the area a couple of years ago and now in Taylor County where there were pastures, corn, peanut and cotton fields, and woodlands there are now over 10,000 acres of ugly black panel monsters. What do you think of the Palo Verde Generating Station? It uses only 3,500 acres(reactor and ponds) and produces 30,000 GWh of electricity a year at a cost of 4.3 cents/KWh. and uses treated sewage for cooling.
