The solar bug hit the area a couple of years ago and now in Taylor County where there were pastures, corn, peanut and cotton fields, and woodlands there are now over 10,000 acres of ugly black panel monsters. I'd rather see mall parkings paved with solar panels. That space is just as ugly, but would serve some useful purpose now :).
Speaking of environmental disasters, how about lawns? Nothing grows there, except one plant. Everything else is killed.
