>>..but as a superpower, don't you think the US has some responsibility to stop genocide? Not saying that's the sole reason we did it..but my point is that there doesn't necessarily have to be a threat to the US to justify an invasion in some cases yes?

>As a member of congress, would you have voted to initiate a draft to send troops into Iraq?

If I was a total creep and had my greedy palms in Halliburton maybe..haha. Actually I do not have a good answer for your question. Not trying to weasel out of answering your question, I just don't know. I will say that since we have an all volunteer army instead of one that every guy spends a few years in, I would think that one of the problems that creates is our country will go to war more quickly than if everyone had some skin in the game. Dillweeds in congress would be less prone to send troops in if their own family members and neighbors are part of those troops and the citizens would pay more attention. Or at least that's what I think - but who knows. They sure as heck didn't have any problem drafting guys to go die in Vietnam despite the public outcry - but that same public got them to end the war too.
I don't think I'm a very good person to talk about drafts, troops, etc because I've never been in the military nor has any of my family, so anything I have to say doesn't deserve much credit other than outside observation.
