>>>..but as a superpower, don't you think the US has some responsibility to stop genocide? Not saying that's the sole reason we did it..but my point is that there doesn't necessarily have to be a threat to the US to justify an invasion in some cases yes?

>>As a member of congress, would you have voted to initiate a draft to send troops into Iraq?

>If I was a total creep and had my greedy palms in Halliburton maybe..haha. Actually I do not have a good answer for your question. Not trying to weasel out of answering your question, I just don't know. I will say that since we have an all volunteer army instead of one that every guy spends a few years in, I would think that one of the problems that creates is our country will go to war more quickly than if everyone had some skin in the game. Dillweeds in congress would be less prone to send troops in if their own family members and neighbors are part of those troops and the citizens would pay more attention. Or at least that's what I think - but who knows.

It's pretty apparent that the all-volunteer military has facilitated wars of choice, where with a draft, we tended to fight wars of necessity.

My answer to someone who thinks we should fight for cause X is - "have you or any of your friends volunteered?"

I went to school with some Jewish guys who were Korean vets like me.
When things got hot in Israel, some of them went over there to fight in those wars.
I'm glad to say that they all came back, finished school and we're still in touch.
They didn't ask anyone else to go.. they went.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
