>Germany is #3 on the list of US trade deficits -somewhere around $65 billion in 2016. I don't know what the details are but I know the US beef exports (I raise beef cattle) to Germany are about 1/3rd what they are to Italy and Dominican Republic, 1/6th to Netherlands, even 1/2 to Guatemala. Something sounds strange.
German food market is very price sensitive. There is also much higher distrust of genetically emgineered animal fodder..
Personally I try to lower my red meat intake while not being too stingy, which means more pricey beef from Germany, Argentina or the States, but only once a week - more poultry and fish.
In Switzerland you pay more than double even for basic stuff like rice and noodles, meat about 160% of german prices and dairy products somewhere in between. Premium for US imports hurt much less from that local minimum price.
