>Here's one for you: if you enact policy xyz: how many mass shooting deaths did you prevent?

Right! How would you know how many things did not happen?

>The frequency is so low that the margin of error is huge and you'll struggle to demonstrate any improvement- not least because you can't declare if/when a mass shooting would have happened that you prevented. ;-)

You wanted stats, so I gave them to you the best I could. However, you mentioned the awfulness factor before. Human nature shows us that people are inclined more towards change when exposed to the awfulness of an event, than to numbers. It is my understanding that these events affect deeply a lot of people. Also, with every mass shooting, the fear of the worst case scenario is getting more and more justified.

>Compare to Chicago where it ought to be possible to work with community and enforce rules that make a measurable difference every day. Because the frequency is so high and existing interventions so non-existent that it's very possible to measure the effects of your initiatives.
>Apart from anything else, it also reassures downtrodden black communities that the country does care and wants to help reduce the carnage. Blacks lives matter. Why not prove it?

I think there are on-going efforts at community level. Things are already happening on that front.
Other than that, I can't see why we couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time.
