I have the same problem at a clients. You will want to make sure that you have installed all of the latest DLL files from SP1 of VS6. Doing this has definitely reduced my lock up problems but has not completely eliminated them yet. I use WISE 6.0 installer tool to do my distribution of apps and so I just packaged all of the latest DLL files with the app.
