>> What I fault Trump for in this situation was the utterly stupid and chaotic way they went about it in the last several months. (And yes, I realize that separations occurred under Obama. )

Well, you know more than I do about it then... but don't forget that Trump proposed a Dreamer Amnesty that wasn't acted on, so I get the idea that obstructionists don't want immigration solved. Maybe they think it's a winner later in the year- but Trump will savage them with reminders of the opportunities he offered and why the country needs more GOP in Congress and Senate. He'll also remind people not to believe those who lied about the "illegal" travel ban or who show zero interest in black unemployment that's now the lowest *ever* or any other good news about US citizens who were systematically trashed for the past 20 years to enrich the elite.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
