>>> What I fault Trump for in this situation was the utterly stupid and chaotic way they went about it in the last several months. (And yes, I realize that separations occurred under Obama. )

>Well, you know more than I do about it then... but don't forget that Trump proposed a Dreamer Amnesty that wasn't acted on, so I get the idea that obstructionists don't want immigration solved. Maybe they think it's a winner later in the year- but Trump will savage them with reminders of the opportunities he offered and why the country needs more GOP in Congress and Senate. He'll also remind people not to believe those who lied about the "illegal" travel ban or who show zero interest in black unemployment that's now the lowest *ever* or any other good news about US citizens who were systematically trashed for the past 20 years to enrich the elite.

All correct, though Trump *probably* wants people to forget that black unemployment rate was declining significantly in the last 5 years under the Obama administration. (It's certainly great that it continues to drop)

If I wanted someone to defend the Obama years, I'd probably use an approach similar to what you're doing. :)

But I actually realize that a president is going to inherit certain momentums from prior administrations. The cold truth is that Trump inherited a "better" economic situation in 2016 than Obama did in 2008. (Trump also inherited, to your original point, a far worse immigration situation, thanks in no small part to inaction during the Obama years)
