>It is not so much the record that has changed as it is the related text files that have changed. And yes, I use GETFLDSTATE() or in this case, I use OLDVAL() and compare it against the current value to see if the text in that particular field has changed such that I need to update that one record.

I must have misread your question, I thought you were referring to content of a memo field, not a text file.
