A contrarian approach: Schumer had already signaled that he won't just vote against Kavanaugh, he'll do whatever he can to block him. So no amount of investigation will alter Schumer's contribution to the outcome, and none of his demands are determinative. The only ones who matter, are the ones who are expected to vote Yes but who can change the otcome by changing their minds, unlike Schumer.
