>>How about to collect some money and contract him to fix the bugs he has fixed?
I believe that Chen can demonstrate contracted repairs, dll authoring and other assistance that predates the latest furor. However, this is not his main source of income and sometimes there's other priorities. So if asked I'm sure Chen would be very happy to offer support packages of various sorts.
Meanwhile if people want to undo FUD or perception of harm, contribution towards a US legal opinion focusing on bug repairs, software interoperability and security, might allow people like Tamar to join a movement that will keep VFP viable for as long as matters to anybody here.
The other advice not directed in any particular direction, is from my grandpa who used to observe that every time you hear a dog barking in the street, you don't have to rush out and bark back at it. Also expressed as "don't sweat the small stuff" and "mind your own business" depending on context. Lets none of us participate in this sort of furor ever again.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
