The perpetually affronted and MSM make no such distinction. If Trump says he wants a concrete wall and then changes his mind to say steel, that's a lie.

No more the Keynes principle that "when the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

These days, the answer is to double down and to collude with Russians to accuse your opponent of colluding with Russians; to lie incessantly (aka fact check) to accuse your opponent of lying; to adopt a most discourteous ignorant demeanor to accuse your opponent of being discourteous and ignorant.

And to expect to get away with it, forever. For that to happen you'd need to be able to fool all the people all the time and I don't think the populace is reduced to that yet.
