>>That doesn't add up to me. People will LOOSE their jobs if they're not getting free slave labor?

>Not "people", rather "some people". There's an industry out there that those people live on.

>>How about all those jobs that are lost to wage earners because the jobs were taken by slave labor who work for 15 cents a day? The only ones making any money off this are those exploiting the inmates. It's disturbing and should be outlawed, just as for-profit prisons should be. ...which is something Obama had made headway on,...but of course since Obama did it Trump has decided to undo it. The whole thing is sickening.

>Funny though that arguments like this are not made more frequently when these things are introduced. But every time one proposes removing some of the sleazy practices and downright exploitation-to-the-max, there's some public concern expressed that this removal would cause some people grief. Can't explain why, perhaps believers may find this a proof - there must be some kind of angels who always worry about those who live on crime, second-handedly and unwillingly, but never about the victims of those crimes.

It is actually very simple here. The private prisons have investors, and those investors are the politicians. The only grief anyone would experience is that some sleezy politicians wouldn't get as much money. It's really despicable that a politician can legally take tons of money from lobbyists and industries to fund their campaigns, can legally invest in those same corporations, then legally write laws that govern and regulate those same corporations. we have a fundamentally broken system right now because of that.
