>>>It's all open source, feel free to make all the changes you want.

>>I do not participate in GNU or Linux kernel development because of the people who are involved in that organization (though Stallman's recently been ousted).

>>>It's a free world, and I accept your choice to make your own rules. Personally I prefer to keep an open mind.
>>
>>In keeping that open mind, does it have any room in there for the thing that I hold most dear? Or is the entirety of such principles and purposes in one's life off-limits?
>>
>>FWIW, I don't see where I've disparaged you or attacked you. My statements have been against the name Thor and what it means explicitly (from mythology). Your name is not Thor. And even if it were, I'd recognize you likely had little input in your own name. You could change it legally probably, but that's a significant thing.
>>
>>In any event, I like you, Tore. Always have. I hold nothing negative against you. I'm sorry if what I wrote offended you or impacted you negatively in some way. I didn't know you were involved with Thor, let alone an author or originator. I wasn't trying to attack you. My statements go entirely against the name Thor itself on its own merits, and what it conveys through mythology connotations. It means something to me, which is why I chose the name 3Alive for my formerly LibSF software endeavor. The 3 connotation there is rooted in my foundational beliefs, and the alive aspect is self-obvious from within that framework. I made the choice to call it that on purpose because of convictions. Other people do similar things whether they realize it or not. And it does mean something.

>>I would advise you to rename Thor to something else. It's my best offering to you on this matter.

>I just checked. There are 7380 Norwegians called Thor, 2032 of which have only Thor as surname. There are also 25 Norwegians who have Thor as their family name. I did not check variants of the name Thor, neither did I check Swedes, Danes, Icelanders or Fins. And to be clear, It never crossed my mind to change my name, for whatever reason.

It probably wouldn't. Just like "Thursday" ... it has the current connotation rather than the historical one. And in many cases, people grow up hearing a word and only associating it with the framework they learned it in. But at some point additional knowledge comes one's way.

If I child was named Killer Smith and grew up not realizing what the word "Killer" meant, but just thought that was their name, at some point they would realize what it means and would seek to change it for a multitude of reasons.

As adults, we are likewise. Until someone teaches us that it means something to give something a name, and that giving something a name means something, we may not think about it. It may be another one of those contextual things that we just have our own familiar framework on, and do not know, realize, or have any inkling of the significant meaning from the past.

A lot of things in this world are changing presently. The goal should be to push aside things that are tied to hurtful / harmful things. I view mythology in that regard due to the teachings within the teachings I study and read about. Those teachings teach us things that we don't find in other places, and when you step back and truly ponder them they make sense.

For me, it's a significant endeavor. I still have to live in this world. I still have to be alive on Thursdays. But for those areas I have control over, I am taking steps to move away from negative / legacy / mythology / etc. things, and move toward things which grow people, educate them rightly, shine lights into the darkness, etc. All of those foundational "onward and upward" ideas.

The older I get the more significant I realize such endeavors are. It's too easy to follow the herd in this world and get caught up in life and living. It takes a certain strength and internal resolve to go against the grain and stand up for principles, risk being ridiculed, made fun of, shunned, etc. It's not for the weak I assure you. :-)

It would do a person well to step back and ponder these things with some significance. I reflect on these things often, and they affirm and reaffirm my life's goals and pursuits. I am constantly making minute adjustments, like a captain on an airliner making little course corrections to ensure that the blowing winds and inclimate weather don't take us off course, causing us to miss our mark. The mark is important, and we must make adjustments to our lives continually to get there.
