Didn't find anything undoable on the virtual machines. also I can connect to them anywhere with any machine. in their office I use one of their machines . at home I use mine. Saves me cycling to and fro with kit in a bag.

I just checked local VM screens with Android tablets (all machines running or did one crash and need attention from a real PC keyb?), input was so much PITA I did not try further, and that was about 2015, so it might work better now.

Thank you, Thomas.
I have no immediate plans to use the Chromebook but my goal is to be completely cloud-based when it looks reliable.
I started out with dumb terminals and it seems that I'll be making full circle.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
