When an office worker who works independently is paid $100K to work 2000 hrs, that amounts to $50 per hour.
But: when planning the number of such workers needed, the productivity figure is never higher than 50%.
And when one is a consultant, that time is unpaid.
So $100/hr actually just covers costs, based on a $100K salary. Which if you look at GlassDoor or other such sites, is low for a Sr. Software Engineer.
