Hi Dean,

I want to comment on parts of your note. . .
>In some Microsoft camps, it seems that Microsoft is trying to position VFP as the middle tier tool (which of course is a good thing!) and VB (as well as IE) as the front end tool.
>

It *is* a "good thing" provided that it is not the ONLY thing that they work on. It is constantly repeated here that the VFP Team is very small and definitely 'resource constrained' and apparently under pressure all the time from other MS camps. So it looks very much like mid-tier would be the main and only objective for the VFP Team for the future.

>As a side note, I don't understand why VB would be a better front end tool?
>

Some of us here don't either! But many here appear to rationalize it in a variety of ways on behalf of MS (thus letting MS off the hook as far as telling us anything which would (likely) be more accurate).

>Anyways, I was at a Microsoft supported seminar in San Jose a week and a half ago and I attended a session on ADO and a session on XML. The Microsoft spokesperson at the ADO session mentioned VFP seven times in his discussion on what tools can be used in the middle tier and with ADO (here here!!!). But, I believe the spokesperson giving the XML session did not even know of the VFP product!

Middle-tier and ADO gets a big "Here here!!!" from you. So you don't really care that you effectively lose the VFP native D/B speed in using such. Nor the fact that VFP databases/tables are at best, at least as at right now, supported only by the ODBC portion of ADO.

>What we need to do is to get the Microsoft folks to include VFP in their conversions and writings along with the usual VB, Java, C++, etc speak.

This has been an "objective" of Mr. Green (Mgr. (or some such) of VFP Team) for a long time now. I mean a very long time! Notwithstanding this, you will no doubt get some who will respond the 'Hey! Hey! - Chalk another victory up for Mr. Green!' Frankly, his campaign has been a miserable failure and we collectively should admit that rather than cheering each intermittent and marginal mention of VFP somewhere (anywhere - Geez, they even applaud seeing an ad at this place!)
