I've got a grid that I'm using for as a lookup with one text field. The text field allows input to seek against the active index. However one of the constraints I am under is that the active index needs to be a character based index. If I'm using a date for example the index must covert to character (DTOC, DTOS).

The grid is sorted based on this index and what I want is a sort that will display in DTOS order but allow the user to seek as if the date were formatted in DTOC format. If I override the textbox functionality, I would be able to accomplish that but I was hoping there was some way to avoid that. Mainly because of the complexity of the framework we are working with.
