We have a similar problem with performance problems when running several thousand small processes (translations from a text file). The problem occurs because of the Novell Netware client. Are the clients different on the different machines?

The Novell client for Windows95/98 has problems that we have an open ticket with Novell on. The client for NT works fine as long as you are running against Netware 4.x or greater.

Our only solution to the problem is to run MS's client for Netware. The problem Novell clients are... 2.2,2.5,3.0,3.1

The problem is that Novell's client caches everything on the local workstation until it gets to a point of swapping to the disk so bad it cannot continue.
