I wasn't aware of this. Anytime I tried just copying I got the Invalid message. Maybe those machines were missing other files as Ed suggested.
I've ended up creating a very simple setup.exe which contains nothing but the runtime files. Since I work for the company that uses my software I've made this setup.exe a part of new machine setup.
