I know its a long shot but once, I had a very similar problem, and I could not get the VCX to recompile, although admittedly I wasn't forcing a compile. I had changed the system date to test parts of my app, and then changed some code in the VCX's. At a later time I reset the date and recompiled the app. I could not figure out why the code would not function and it was because the date of the VCX was a future date. As I said, I know its a long shot.
