Hello all, I appreciate your attempts to help.

I have tried all the suggestions to date, except for rebuilding
new video hardware into the PC. VFP6 freezes under the driver it
came with (SIS5597), it freezes under SVGA, and it freezes under
VGA. The monitor port is attached directly to the motherboard, so
it's not just a matter of replacing a simple video card.

I rebuilt the project from scratch, saving into a backup folder
at each step. There are 3 tables in a database, plus 2 free-
standing lookup tables and 8 simple one-table forms. The freeze
is occuring after running the first report wizard, selecting all
fields and trying to save the file. Partway through the save, it
freezes under any video driver I've tried. I've restored the files
by deleting everything in the main folder, then copying everything
from the backup folder, including subdirectory contents, then
rebuilding the project in the main folder, recompiling all files.
No errors are being reported on the recompile, and the number of
objects in the project is consistent. This is not rocket science,
I'm trying to track simple events and print some labels.

I expect that in the future there will be More video drivers in
the world rather than Fewer of them. Our friends in Redmond have
apparently not addressed this because either (1) it's not important
to them, or (2) they've painted themselves into a technological
corner. Either way, it doesn't look good for long term support.
We could probably all agree that if this were Internet Explorer,
it would be fixed by now.

I've tried to restrain my use of simple characterizing words here,
but one word I would not use to describe VFP6.0 is "robust".
