Under VFP6, The JUSTFNAME(), JUSTPATH(), JUSTDRIVE(), JUSTSTEM() and JUSTEXT() are a part of the native language. In versions of VFP and FPW prior to 6, there's a .FLL that came with the development version called FOXTOOLS.FLL, which had this functionality; George tasker wrote up extended docuemntation on the FOXTOOLS functions which can be downloaded from UT. Under VFP6, the documentation on the newly-included functions is right in the VFP Help file.

I don't remember, but there may have been a .PLB with similar functionality for FPDOS as well.
