> Everyday I look at job adds in the Vancouver Sun and the Globe & Mail. I rarely see anything for VFP. Not to worry, there's plenty for VB, VC++, and Java.

That may be true, but now lets count the total number of VB, C, and VFP programmers out there. Hell, I know more VB programmers than Tom has eaten 'Slim Jims'! (S) Then, find me one College CS grad who doesn't know some variation of C. Now find me experienced FoxPro programmers. Even I haven't been in the FoxPro game very long (compared to most here), but I have to turn away long term VFP projects because of lack of time.... The jobs are out there, especially on a contract/maintenance/upgrade basis. At least, that's what I have seen so far, anyway (I know others on this forum are not having the same experience as me). Sometimes, you just have to dig a little harder (and design web pages until the big fish comes in (g)) to get work.

This is gonna sound like Spam for Michel (s), but if you want contract work, put up an ad in the VFPYP. When we (Vitus) did that, we got 4 calls almost immediately.

FoxPro, IMHO, isn't the "be all and end all" development language (duck), but for database (and C/S) apps, it's untouchable. My best advice is a Cliche: 'don't put all your eggs in one basket'. Meaning, know some other languages and technologies as well. But don't give up on VFP because the people who don't know what they are talking about are getting scared.... (RBG)

>Sure enough, I'll be getting Visual InterDev. But I'm quite sure I cant survive spending the next 2 years learning VC++. VB is too slow, and VJ++ has a 3GL interface.

To be honest, while I hone my VFP skills, my next goal is to pick up VC++.... I figure with VFP, VC++, and my SQL Server (and DB design) skills, I am very marketable. Now I just have to find someone who will pay me money to play Quake and I am set! (RBG)

Scot.
