>Does anybody have a handle on high-speed internet access from the home that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I've looked at DirectPC and SpeedChoice and found them lacking because of the one-way speed. I've also been waiting for USWest to get their ADSL access off the ground here in Phoenix, but I've been told "available soon" since Oct '97! (Their excuse is I can't get it because my phone lines are fiber-optic, not copper!) I just checked out the SkyBridge and Teledesic web-sites, but they won't be operational until 2002/2003 and they don't even mention cost.

At least USWest pays lip service to ADSL, in this GTE backwater I'm in I can't even get ISDN on the tentative schedule! Right now, unless you can get cable modem access, I don't know of any high bandwidth available at resonable prices. Of course even with cable the bandwidth goes to pot if the segment your on gets overpopulated.
