I've seen a version of your solution run into a particular problem.
If you have a modal screen with a date field running in the top level form and an incorrect date is entered, the "Invalid Date" message is not displayed.

I have a feeling the message is being displayed in the top-level form but is not being displayed because the window running within the top-level form is modal.

Have you experienced this with your solution?
