How long MS take to comply would be a key issue if there are vast differences between MS Java and real Java. It doesn't seem sensible to move out of VS for just a slightly different flavour. But one thing that sticks in my mind is the arrogance of MS in relation to multithreading in VFP. About this time last year, I made committments on a project that there would some sort of multithreading in VFP after VFP6. (MS did not announce that it would not work and even now they remain silent on when it will be fixed). The only reason I want to do things in other languages is to get multi threading and, sometimes, a thinner applet. I still want to use VFP as much as possible.
I hope others on the thread also pass opinions on Java as the "next" language for a monolinguistic pleb.
