Sylvain,

I bought the whole series using the UT discuont and my VISA card. With exchange (and the hidden service fee when they convert other funds) my VISA bill was for $421.32 (US amount was $273.).

There have been more costs however...

The first two books, Hacker's Guide and The Essentials, arrived in the same (heavy) box and I got a postal notice of a parcel and picked it up *without* additional charge.
The third book, Developer's Guide, arrived in an envelope affair but also with a postal notice. This time there were charges - $10.05 total for the Canadianized GST + a 'service fee' ostensibly for collection of that GST. The 'service fee' actually exceeded the GST by a few cents@!#@!#

Who knows what costs, if any, will be associated with the remaining books?!

All this to say that your doubling is a bit too pessimistic.

I generally prefer to let others worry about these things by buying retail here in Canada and letting those costs be hidden in the pricing. But when you want the stuff and it isn't available retail, you have to bite the bullet.

While I abhor those "service fees", it does work out.

Cheers,

Jim N

>>If you're thinking about buying the whole set, I would recommend paying for the UT premier membership and taking advantage of the discount offered with the partnership program. Last year I ended up paying 5 dollars more than the regular bundle price of the books, but I got the UT membership in the process. Now is somthing like 35 more because of the increase in both items, but it's still a good deal for those that may be thinking about the UT membership.

>Well it's what I should have done a long time ago... Unfortunatly, the canadian dollar is low at the time, so I usually double the US price to give me an accurate projection, so I expect the cost of UT + the books will be around $500 to $600. Well worth it, I'm sure, but it's a lot of money spend "one shot"...
