I am guessing that Palm Springs would be 1.5 to 2.0 hours from the beach, but that would be without traffic. Of course, that is absurd, because there always seems to be heavy traffic anywhere you go in South California (even on Sunday). I am from North California and am only vaguely familiar with that area, so my time estimate may not be accurate. Hopefully somebody from the other end of the state can give you a better estimate.
