Yeah, I agree with Bob regarding creating one's own heirarchy. Yes, I know in some cases this is not kosher, but sometimes the class dependencies in the FFC are hard to track down *and* I consider the FFC sacred: Don't want to muck with it.

However, what I tend to do, and will probably continue doing, is create the class in my own hierachy and copy the code from _FFC... or, I redefine the classes in the _FFC to use the first level subclasses provided in Codebook, MM or VFE, the three frameworks that I use.
