Looks like we're down to wild guesses, so here's a few:

1. What about the difference between BROWSE LAST and BROWSE NORMAL. (Not sure from your explanation if the data is there and you can't see it, or not there.
2. Remember that SELECT uses the width of field in the first record, so if you SELECT ALLT(MyField) and the first one is "Al" and the second one is "Barbara" you will get "Al" and "Ba". (Note the ALLT.)
