I wouldn't be to sure about whether or not it will be supported in the future. The MSDN library (April, 1999) shows the Windows functions for DDE support, included in "Windows NT/2000". Further, the necessary header file is included with the Win2K SDK. So it appears that, at least in the foreseeable future, DDE support by MS will continue.
