>You're quite welcome, Denise. Please feel free to contact me if need be. BTW, there are some examples, though not terribly instructive, in the FPW help file.

I found that out. I was studying them this morning to try to find an answer to my latest portion of the problem (discussed below) but they weren't much help at all.

>As a side note, I always find figuring these things out for myself far more gratifying and instructive than simply being handed the answer. Usually, in my fumbling attempts, I learn stuff that can be applied to more than just the problem at hand.

100% agreed. I just wish I had more time to do that. Often if I don't find an answer soon, I'll have to do it another way because time is money and people want their stuff <> :) But when I have time to explore it's always a lot more fun.

I have something going on that I just don't understand. Let me tell you what's going on and you let me know what you think, please. I can open a brand new spreadsheet using the command
mchannum = ddeinitiate("excel", "sheet1")
and I get a return value of mchannum = 0. However, if I try to open a pre-existing spreadsheet (for the sake of simplicity in learning I've put it in the current default directory) using this command
mchannum = ddeinitiate("excel", "y2kex")
I get a brand new spreadsheet opened, but a return value of mchannum = -1.

I'm guessing it's because y2kex.xls is the filename and that's different from sheet1. I've looked at a couple of Excel books hoping for an answer, but can't find one. I guess I'm hoping you see something stupid I'm doing?
