Thanks for the suggestion, Bruce, but I get the same result with both GetObject() and CreateObject(). Since this is to be installed on multiple sites, I'd like a better answer than 'Reinstall Word'.

I've looked at the registry entries for Excel and for Word and can't see any obvious differences. MS Tech Support files talked about a problem with the computer name, but that wasn't applicable. Haven't seen the MSDN report that was mentioned earlier in the thread
