Just a word of caution that you can/will have the same problem with character fields, given the right circumstances.

And when the boss asks, tell him that you still don't know everything yet, but you continue to work on exactly that.

I fixed three places in our application today where this was a problem... never identified before. I've used UDFs in SELECTs many times, but most often with character data, which seems to work as expected. But this numeric issue in the SELECT is the kind of thing that makes me nervous. It also makes me wonder what other "hidden" gremlins are hiding out there! I might sound like the paranoid type, but when the boss asks "Well why didn't you know about this before?" I feel like an idiot. I wish there was a list somewhere that was titled "The Things In Foxpro That Can Sneak Up And Bite You In The A--".
