>This is just some observations of mine but, we go to preschool in order to be ready for elementry school. In elementry we learn to read, write and do math. Than Jr. High Prepairs us for HighSchool. We spend four years in HS to learn how to be succesful in College. So aside from 1st Grade and 2nd Grade we spend our whole education on learning how to get to more school, which is really a sad thing when you think about it. So once you hit College levels focusing on actual skills is what I would appreciate.
Actually, IMO, you're right about each level preparing us for the next. So grade school prepares for jr. high which prepares for high which prepares for college, but then what... college prepares for the rest of your life. IMO it is very important to learn some marketable skills. But it is
more important to learn how to think for yourself and teach yourself. Because once you learn these skills (and I'm not saying that you don't aleady have them, Mike, but you seem to be a cut above what I've seen in dealing with college freshmen) ... once a person learns how to think for and teach himself, s/he is then prepared more thoroughly for the rest of his/her life.
It's kind of like the old proverb... "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime."
At least that's my opinion.
