I'm not usre how the slow bandwidth will affect things, but typically for a disttributed environment, SQL Server is a good choice. You should investigate SQL Server's replications features in detail to determine the best method based on your data needs and bandwidth and . For the salespeople, you might want to look at MSDE for the offline data if you go with SQL Server.
