Therefore, before sending a file on the net I end having to make sure the encoding method selected on my system is the same as the encoding method on the remote system.

The only problem I have is with a file sent to people using Compuserve. Whenever they switch to their real Internet connection by using a direct ISP connection, the file received is ok.
