It might be nice to be able to edit your own message(s) that have already been posted. Could let you fix egregious errors, typos or comments poorly worded that could be taken the wrong way.

However, there are benefits to having a permanent, unalterable record. SO, I propose a compromise - make a post editable by its author for a fixed period of time after the datetime of the post, say 30 minutes.
