It seems like deja vu. IAC, here it is again. :)
It'd nice to be able to edit after the posting. However, we do not allow that for specific reasons. Allowing a user to edit would mean that you would be able to edit not only what you have written but also what others have written in that message. The integrity of the original posting is important. Being able to edit after a posting does not fit in the threading formula.
As for the 30 minutes, we've seen fast replies in less than a few seconds. So, even with a short time like that, the message might have a few replies already.
As for being able to have an editable message - not a growing thread, this is something we have thought about since two years. You might have seen that on other Web sites. If we implement something like that, it means we would have two types of posting - thread as is and a non threading message where everyone can edit it.
IAC, those who would like to see something like this are welcome to discuss it here. Give your feedback and if you would like to see this new type of posting we'll consider it.
