Ed;

I don't have that check box available, at least in my version. I haven't been able to find a way to make it available. Now, I don't have web-style windows enabled (I am using the classic option) and I can try that. The wierd thing is the option is not there in Win98. This is on my home computer, so I won't be able to test changing the desktop style until I go home. At work I have windows NT and I have found the registry entry that sets the display of file attributes so I will try that when I get home.

So, if you are saying that your version(s) of WIN98 have the option available, then there is some setting in my version that is hiding it.

I have just purchased a new PC with WIN98 and I found this missing option so odd! You can't imagine how many times I check the view options on my WIN98 Pc and then on the WIN95 PC!

In Windows 95 and Windows NT, under folder options - view tab, you can select the check box that says 'show file attributes in detail view'. This option is no where to be found in Windows 98! In fact, it seems there a whole lot of options that have been removed from windows 98!
