Actually, at least one computer manufacturer I know of, DEC, used to call the key component of its operating systems The Monitor.
But that's OK. Overloading names is cool, to hell with ambiguity! (I think I'll write a method called Ambiguity which searches a random number of generations up the class hierarchy to find out what to do!)
