Well, that's a work around that will probably work. But I've already got a work around. What I'm really looking for is the underlying reason why the problem is happening so that I can correct it rather than work around it.

Besides, I take advantage of the fact that the dot-matrix printer can print in a bit-mapped mode to get a wider variety of fonts. Printing to an ASCII file eliminates my ability to control what's printed.
