Of all people you should be looking at this as an opportunity. After all you program in C and I am sure you could develop your own web server. How can you resist peeking into how Apache works? Or even the Linux kernel?

There is a lot of serious money going into Linux (Redhat has filed an IPO already) and VA Research (http://www.valinux.com) has received some heavy duty funding.
